ASH contributes to the expansion of disease control efforts by collaborating with a number of stakeholders and institutions. In partnership with USAID, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO/AFRO), ASH has contributed to the development and implementation of a strategy for integrated disease surveillance and response (IDSR), whereby countries follow a systematic framework for strengthening their public health surveillance, confirmation and response systems.

ASH has accelerated action on other areas of communicable disease by identifying and promoting evidence-based best practices to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. The project has played a role in identifying disease trends and their regional impact, and in promoting a coordinated response to communicable diseases.
