Technical Areas > Communication and Advocacy

ASH project communications, advocacy, and dissemination (ACD) activities are largely focused around the creation, translation, brokering and management of knowledge as they apply to scaling up best practices and improving health. Within the ASH project, ACD serves to bridge gaps between knowledge and action: how knowledge is used to effectively inform policy makers and programmers, how knowledge is used to persuade policy makers, and how knowledge is widely spread to both policy makers and other advocates who can replicate and scale up best practices.
ASH applies best practices and lessons learned to design and implement advocacy, communications, and dissemination (ACD) activities. These best practices include the use of performance indicators, so that the impact of ACD activities can be measured, and activities adjusted. The project team regularly reviews the effectiveness of its ACD strategy in influencing policy and programs for greater impact at both regional and country levels. Moreover, the project uses its ACD activities to reinforce key messaging from regional organizations, such as the African Union. The project’s ACD activities use emerging technologies and web-based platforms, along with traditional communication forms, such as technical reports and peer-reviewed articles.
